"parade"

@thelivesketcher

M – two years old, non-speaking, leads the parade — ukulele in hand. Kate plays flute behind him; his mammy Megan, Cocoon’s movement artist, follows at the back. Two adults playing the exact same way as M — stopping when he stops, starting when he starts. This is the whole of Cocoon in one moment.

cocoon promo vid

The above video is a promo, which gives a good flavour of our pilot work at Cocoon. We are currently working with two local families to test our new space. We are prioritising experience over public documentation and sharing, as it is all very new.

We document everything we do via notes, photos, voice notes, messages, reflective practice meetings. It’s an embedded part of our practice to think deeply and reflect on all we do with our families. If you are a funder and would like to know more, we can share current work-in-progress via a secure video call. We are not currently publishing pilot experiences out of respect for our families’ provacy.

We are one of 11 recipients of @youthmusic’s Energiser Fund. The first-of-its-kind early years fund has enabled us to test and develop our brand new purpose-made music and movement playspace, Cocoon.

This was a highly competitive fund, with almost 100 applications. Only 1 in 10 was funded, and we are the only organisation in the North East who is funded.

Big thanks to @ace_national for making this fund possible. https://youthmusic.org.uk/announcing-11-recipients-energiser-fund

We specialise in working with 2-yr-olds and families, and have twenty years’ experience. We are currently piloting our new single family offer in North Shields. Kate has just converted an empty shop unit into a magical musical playspace. Please support this much needed, innovative, creative work.
Cocoon offers joyful music and movement opportunities for 2-4 year olds and their carers, meeting children’s human need to move, sing, dance and make music.

We are committed to partnership working, and to reflective practice and sharing learning across disciplines and sectors.
Our settings-based work has engaged early years practitioners as equal partners in reflection and provides opportunities for practitioners to share their learning with others.

We have a regional and national presence and were commissioned by Culture Bridge North East to develop and convene ‘Let’s Play’, the North East’s Early Years Creative Network, providing a series of online learning and networking events.
Our focus is on children and families in North Tyneside, particularly
North Shields, where families face multiple challenges.

We were recently consulted by
Youth Music to share our underlying approach and working practices to support their development of the emerging Energiser Fund for creative work with 2-4 yr-olds.
