Meet the Cocoon team

Hiya, we’re Kate and Megan!

You can read this page, or listen to us say hello.

Hi, I’m Kate.

Listen to Kate

Kate says hello (about 25 seconds)

  • I have an 11-year-old daughter and live near the sea.
  • I love playing my flute and my hand pan.
  • I don’t like lots of different noise all at the same time and very bright light hurts my eyes.
  • I need quiet time on my own to be at my best.
  • I love Cocoon, which is my safe place.

That’s me!

Hello, my name is Megan.

Listen to Megan

Megan says hello (about 25 seconds)

  • I have a four-year-old son and an eight-month-old daughter.
  • I love dancing and moving my body to music.
  • I don’t like busy places with lots of people.
  • To be my best, I like a calm and organised space.
  • I love dancing at Cocoon. It is one of my favourite places.

On our way to the Magic Acorns Ripples Symposium in 2025. A few intense, but very magical, days away together.

About us

Kate and Megan are co-directors of Cocoon Music CIC. Together, they run and manage Cocoon.

Kate

Kate is a flute player and early years music specialist based in Whitley Bay. She was the first ever trainee on Sage Gateshead’s Early Years Music Traineeship, and has 20 years’ experience in early years music and movement play, specialising in work with two-year-olds.

After a six-year career break to look after her daughter, Kate rebuilt her company from nothing and set up Cocoon Music CIC. She founded Cocoon in North Shields, converting a former beauty outlet into a magical music and movement playspace for one family at a time.

Kate believes two-year-olds are ‘terrific’, never terrible. She is passionate about nurturing genuine connection and joy between carers and their children through play.

Megan

Megan is a movement artist based in Newcastle. She graduated from Dance City in 2017 and has worked with choreographers such as Nadia Iftkhar, Anna Watkins and Liv Lorent gaining versatility as a creative collaborator.

Alongside her own creative practice as a dancer and filmmaker, Megan has worked in community dance settings for the last 10 years, with babies age 0 to adults age 104!

Megan believes movement should be playful, joyful and accessible to everybody. She is passionate about helping people connect/reconnect with their bodies.
